Johns Hopkins University (JHU) and the Maryland Institute College of Art (MICA) needed a shared film center that could support every stage of the filmmaking process while creating a collaborative home for students, faculty, and the region’s creative community. The space had to deliver professional-grade acoustic performance, integrate specialized production environments, and be ready for the start of the academic year.
Southway delivered a comprehensive renovation within the historic Centre Theatre, transforming the entire second floor into a state-of-the-art film education and production facility. The project incorporated 17 unique wall assemblies and five specialized floor assemblies to meet varying acoustic demands, while integrating professional recording studios, a soundstage, screening rooms, editing suites, and classrooms into a cohesive learning environment.
This is what it looks like when a construction management firm builds spaces that inspire creativity without compromising performance.
