Lexington Market has been part of Baltimore’s story since 1782, but years of wear left the historic market in need of a new chapter. Southway joined the project team midway through design, focusing on budget control while preserving the programmatic goals for the new market.

Southway identified significant cost savings without compromising the design, helping establish a viable path forward for the 60,000-square-foot replacement market. The new building combines two former market sheds into one modern facility with fresh and prepared food vendors, entertainment and meeting spaces, general seating, and a pedestrian promenade for outdoor events.

Construction required careful coordination to keep the existing market operational, allowing vendors and patrons to continue serving and enjoying this iconic Baltimore destination. The completed LEED Gold development preserves Lexington Market’s legacy while providing a modern setting for the next generation.
