Ellicott Mill is a historic, adaptive reuse project in Ellicott City, MD. This transformative project reimagines and preserves a landmark rich in industrial and cultural heritage – the last remaining flour mill in active operation in Maryland, originally constructed in 1916 and in service until 2020.

The site itself carries profound historical significance. It was here that the Ellicott brothers opened Maryland’s first merchant flour mill in 1774, helping to shape the town’s identity. In 1831, a railroad spur from the B&O Railroad, the nation’s first commercial rail line, was extended across the Patapsco River to serve the mill, further cementing its role in regional commerce.

Today, the eight-story structure is being thoughtfully converted into a vibrant, mixed-use development featuring 190 luxury rental apartments, 2,700 SF of retail space, and a restaurant with an outdoor deck overlooking the scenic Patapsco River. The redevelopment will also include a dedicated historic display area showcasing artifacts and stories from the building’s rich past.
